If you are going to need a phono stage in the future you ARE going to
need a pre-amp.

If I were you I really really wouldn't worry about having a pre-amp in 
the system. You have very nice speakers (which are far and away the most
important part of any system) and an excellent source. You will need a
good pre-amp to balance up your system.

The ATC would be a good visual and system match.

All this stuff about signal path is nonsense IMHO. You simply wouldn't
believe what most music has gone through before you get to hear it. A
high quality ($1k or above as a guide) pre-amp is NOT going to damage
the signal.. any more than the line level stages in your ATC amps are
doing right now...

You want to see the signal path BEFORE it gets onto a CD/vinyl...it
ain't what you'd call minimal...

...SB3+TACT+Altmann+MF DACXV3/Linn tri-amped Aktiv 5.1 system and some
very expensive cables ;o)
