Just to say that in a few weeks I'll be able to provide a thorough review of the SB3 driving the Audioengine 5 active speakers, and with or without the help of a subwoofer with a reputation for some musicality (Athena 4100, for the record).
I'll be comparing that against my current setup (SB3 connected to the Accuphase DP65 CD player acting as a DA, and into an E306v Accuphase amp driving specially tuned artisan German speakers). The reason for the review is moving from my house to a small (but nice) one bedroom apartment in a different city for what could amount to be up to a year for professional reasons. The big system is staying behind, and I am giving the SB3 + AE5 combo a try, and also got a subwoofer to see whether it is needed or not. I have been listening to the Accuphase gear for 8 years, and to the SB3 driving the Accuphase DA for over a year, so I am quite fit to assess whether the results will satisfy my ear over hours of listeing on weekends. It will add to the endless debates about how musical and audiophile such a setup can really be. I am particularly intrigued by the with vs without subwoofer comparos for myself - kinda sceptical myself but willing to be persuaded.
