OK, thanks for your interesting findings!
I must have just missed this posting before stopping frequenting this
forum for a while.

My latest direction is to use a very good sound card in an HTPC as the
DAC. Pre-amp will be analogue again. (bye, bye TacT, and SB3 is getting
a rest for now)

I believe I can get a sound card that's about as good as a Transporter
for almost nothing.
