Tyler obviously DOES understand the technology. Do you? Extremely few people, even few engineers, understand the charging cycle of a capacitor input power supply (a large current spike full of harmonics) and the problems it causes. He clearly is aware of this.
Choke input power supplies largely cure this but are physically impractical. Audiophile designs partially cure the problem through improved characteristics of high speed rectifiers, but the current spike is still there, and radiates badly, just like the author said. Vague statements about line conditioners as a cure-all for mysterious noise are always suspicious. Discussions about the merits of expensive AC power cords are complete nonsense. And yes, I am an audiophile with real gear; including good tube electronics and a real vinyl repro system. I don't doubt that attention to detail creates good sound; I doubt bad physics when I hear it. - from an oldie, moldy Electrical Engineer. -- NatureDude ------------------------------------------------------------------------ NatureDude's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=12104 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=38271 _______________________________________________ audiophiles mailing list [email protected] http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/audiophiles
