I think you would be fine either way. As I mentioned, I tested the AirPort and the G5 with a surround receiver and both decoded a DTS file fine, ie. bit-perfect, so there should be no difference in audio quality. BTW, my iMac G5 also uses a mini-Toslink, so I'm guessing that you have a G5 tower.
