In the past I fashioned my own 5VDC 5A supply for about $100 in parts. I found that it made an obvious difference when using the SB3's analog output. Next, I purchased the CIAudio VDA-2 DAC and switched to using the SB3's digital output to drive it - that resulted in a larger improvement than what the psu provided. Then Dusty upgraded the VDA-2 with better voltage regulation on the DAC chip - and I noticed still further improvement and lower noise floor.
After moving to the digital output, the linear power supply no longer made any difference in my system to my ears. -Ron -- Ron F. *Squeezebox setup:* wireless SB3 -> CI Audio VDA.2 DAC + VAC.1 PSU *Main rig:* NAD 7600 + NAD 2600A -> Phase Tech PC-6.5 speakers *Headphone rig:* Headroom Max -> Sennheiser 650s *Music Server:* Nano-ITX computer running SlimCD + 750 GByte HDD -> Netgear wireless router *Other stuff:* NAD C542 CDP, NAD 6300 Tape, Monster 5100 Power conditioner, Outlaw Audio cables ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Ron F.'s Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=5616 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=38738 _______________________________________________ audiophiles mailing list [email protected] http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/audiophiles
