I really enjoy movies every now and then, and I'm still delighted when
I hear bullets hitting the wall behind me... so even if only for the
rear channels I'll probably hang on to the HT setup a while longer. The
center speaker is adding less to the experience (plus the fact that it
is not really a good match for the L/R speakers, but that's an entirely
different topic).

Well, I only bought this one about 6 months ago. Like I said, for 2
channel audio it was a huge improvement on my old receiver, so I
thought I was making a step in the right direction... which I was, I
suppose. I'm afraid that if I get (yet) another HT receiver, I'd have
to spend serious money before I would get a big improvement and that
I'd be considering a partial move to 2 channel audio in 6 months...
again.
Oh, and believe it or not: my wife actually does not really mind big
speakers, even though the Kef speakers aren't huge (iQ7).

Good to hear! I was under the impression that looking for a 2 channel
amp that can bypass volume control would be like looking for the
proverbial needle... that's why the Parasound 2100 I linked in my
initial post got my attention, since it explicitly implements this
feature. Plus, it's not too expensive, which is nice too. Of course,
it's a pre-amp, but I can get a good deal on a (used) power amp. But if
I understand you correctly, there are more amps out there that have that
feature?

That the nice part: that Parasound even has a low pass filter, so I
could (in theory) even use a subwoofer for 2 channel audio. Or would
that be a bad idea?
