Yeah, yeah, yeah......I have heard all of that crap countless times.

Look, it is simple: the cause is jitter.

The SPDIF scheme is stupid too begin with. It allows for too much
jitter. And not just any kind of jitter: jitter that is data
correlated.

As for why the SB2/3 may sound worse.......the output isn't all that

Take out the ferrite doo-hickey in series with the output, and then
compare it to some of your other sources. They will most likely have
some other means of gaining EM compliance.........all of which will
muck up the sound.........but will muck it up in different ways.

The other reason the SB2/3 may sound worse is the noise on the +3.3 V
rail. It will cause jitter, but of a (hopefully) random nature, and
won't do as much damage.
