I could understand digital amplification, if there were such a thing as digital hearing or digital sound waves. Until we humans evolve that capability, I think audio signals will always have to be converted to analog in order for us to hear them. Actually, the way we hear is in some way digital - with single neurons firing - so if we can tap directly into that...argh...back to work.
