Knowing the amp and the source and judging the speakers by their price,
I'd say, the source is the strongest link in your system. So, DAC won't
give you anything remarkable there. Prior idea about adding the sub
would get you an istant gratification, especially if you already like
the highs and mids. Just make sure that the sub will work with BEE.

However, depending on the money you want to spend on upgrades, I'd
suggest also looking into the floor standing speakers and maybe a new
amp. BEE is known to be rather lifeless. For slightly more money (used
for used) you could probably get NAD 352 or some of similarly priced
NAD power amps (C272) , which would be rather good choice if you want
to go with only SB as a source, that is without a preamp.

Choice of floor standing speakers is ... well huge, but in the range
1000 to 1500 you will definitely be able to find something you like. Be
honest to yourself when it comes to the size of the space where you
listen. Sometimes, floor standers simply won't fit. Make sure that you
understand the design and intended purpose of enclosures - some are
meant to go close to walls, some need space to breath. I'm not going to
suggest anything in porticular other than a lot of auditioning. And, if
you have a chance, don't skip on plannars - you might just end up
liking them (based on your preferences, sub might be in order there
too).

Oh, and if you can afford the time, take it slowly and enjoy.

The sound stage will open up, bass will tighten and the imaging will
improve. DVD performance will also increase substantially.
