That's like saying you can't save money by insulating an old home. In
this case, it really depends on the state of his existing refrigerator.
If it's old and energy inefficient, a new one could pay for itself in
electricity cost savings in a couple of years. Whether or not that
would be "green" is a separate issue from the economics. And whether or
not that would stop the annoying tick is a whole different matter.

One way to solve the tick problem might be switching to battery powered
amps, such as those made by Red Wine Audio, but fixing the cause of the
tick is probably a more cost efficient solution.
