Downsampling does not reduce the bit depth, i.e. 24-bits remain 24-bits so you will still benefit form the fact that the Linn files are 24-bit and not 16-bit. Why not try an experiment by downloading a single track from Linn at CD quality and Studio Master quality, and then downsample the master quality version to 24/48 (or 24/44.1 depending on whether the origonal master is 96 or 88.2) using foobar or some other tool. If you can tell the difference buy the one you prefer else buy the cheapest! Some experiments I tried a while ago indicated, to my ears, that 24-bit quantisation was more important than sampling rate. What I'm saying here is that I couldn't tell the difference between 24/96 and 24/48 where as I could tell the difference between 16/48 and 24/48. It wasn't a massive difference though. -- Stoker --ian ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Stoker's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=8264 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=40484 _______________________________________________ audiophiles mailing list [email protected] http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/audiophiles
