It depends what you want to measure...

To see the basic waveshape (rise/fall time etc) any scope will do.

A color screen really improves being able to see things at a glance.

For jitter measurements I use a Lecroy 64xi with the additional jitter
software module. We also use this scope for ethernet compliance testing
with another module - it is very versatile. This scope will run about
$13K. It is an excellent machine - if you get one let me know and I'll
help you get set up to do jitter measurements.

For looking at the logical information (validity bits, channel status,
etc) get this:
