Would you be so kind to reread my posts? I'm absolutely agree with you
that for ethernet it does not matter, as long as the distance, etc are
within the standards (TBH, I do not remember the minimum S/N ratio for
the Ethernet).

I'm talking about interferences the copper connection brings into the
analogue part of the device. (For that reason I would not recommend
using shielded Ethernet cables with audio equipment.)

For example, compare "clean" ground with "polluted" ground. The "dirt"
in the ground adds those extra decibels to the noise floor. 

Same go for the Ethernet signal which is effectively a high frequency
you usually want to get rid off in the audio equipment.  Good
electrical shielding between the components does help, however it's not
done properly in the Transporter for the obvious reason - to to keep the
price down. Check the internals of the Linn Klimax DS. Every domain is
divided from another with an aluminium wall.
