Interesting one Mark! First point before any other, if the NAS is
preventing you from using the SB3 then move the NAS. Obviously it
bothers you so bite the bullet.

Once you've done that you can use the SB3 as your main source for music
(IMO it's a good source) and right there you've saved the money for a
decent CD player.

That just leaves the movie side of things. Sounds like you have a DVD
player already.

With the money you saved on the CD player buy a new amp if you like.
Before you do that:
1. Look at your speaker placement and room acoustics.
2. Check out the Inguz plugin for slimserver/squeezecenter.

It may be that the room acoustics or speaker/room interactions are the
source of the problems you're hearing. Certainly, you should make sure
these are optimised before moving on to the amp. A flatter frequency
response (however this is achieved) seems to unlock the sound quality
potential of a system in other ways too. IMO it's the first thing to
improve.
