AFAIK the Nait 5i does not have a DAC, so I'm assuming we are talking
analog connection between the Receiver and amp.

Like you said cliveb, we've been over this many times. But I do believe
you are wrong in this. From what I know it boils down to this. You don't
loose any resolution until something something like -30dB. However
theoretically you get lower SNR by reducing volume pre-dac since the
DAC introduces constant noise. It's an artifact of digital volume
control which volume control in the analoge domain does not suffer
from. So I'd say if you're worried about this, keep the Receiver volume
at 100% and use the Nait.
