I think at this point the less I say the better it may be, but I'll try
and convey where I'm coming from one more time.

Audiophile is a rather broad term and can mean different things to
different people. A person who has a Sony mini system with some
plastic speakers likely thinks a system with a cd player, decent
2-channel amp running some quality bookshelf speakers and separate sub
sounds fantastic. I'm sure there is a noticeable difference for almost
anyone that would compare the two systems.

As you increase in quality (and yes, this most often means increasing
price) you get a decreasing amount of difference between systems. It's
called diminishing returns. When you reach a certain level, you need to
know what you are listening to to tell the difference (this takes some
experience). The 'average' person would not be able to distinguish the
sound between two quality systems, to them they both 'sound good'.

and all."

To me, this statement means you not only have the gear that will
resolve the differences between the two similar sources, but also the
ears that can tell the difference. This sounds a lot like the 'monster
cable/coat hanger' debate. I don't think the vast majority of people
would be be able to tell the difference between the two (duet/SB3) in
blind a/b testing.

For those that *could* tell the difference, I suspect those people
could also tell the difference between a duet as a source and a
transporter or duet->dac, or whatever. Thus, true audiophiles (systems
and ears that can resolve subtle differences) would not consider the
duet an audiophile quality device.
