In the $200 range the Aego-M from Acoustic Energy is an excellent choice. It's a 3-piece system with truly tiny satellites and a reasonably-sized sub.
Also for $200 is the highly-regarded A2 from AudioEngine. It's a small set of powered speakers that has a good low end without requiring a sub. If you want to spend more, the $349 A5 from AudioEngine should be all you'd ever need. All of these systems have a ton of rave reviews backing them.
