There were multiple schemes from different companies and they got "better" at what they were trying to do as time went on. Googling finds this list: "SafeDisc, SafeDisc v2, SecuROM, DiscGuard, CD-Cops, LaserLock, Cactus Data Shield, Lock Blocks, ProtectCD, PSX/Lybcrypt, CD-Check, Dummy Files, Oversize & Illegal TOC" There once was a software tool out there that could identify what type of protection was on a disc.
