Indeed. Studio monitors are a tool - like a microscope - to let you hear
things clearly. There are some notable exceptions (ATC for example) but
generally those speakers that are most useful as monitors are not ones
you want to have in your listening/living room. Most monitors have very
low WAF since they are tools first and furniture second. 


Accuracy and euphony are different goals. It's like photography -
accurate doesn't make the most attractive photograph, so we use filters
etc to "improve" the presentation.

My view: you want an amp to be the proverbial "straight wire with gain"
- no character of its own. You want speakers to be what YOU enjoy
listening to -there is no "truth" in this game. None. Unless you were
the guy who mixed/mastered the album you do not know what it is truly
supposed to sound like. Anyway, that doesn't matter.

This is then complicated slightly by the fact that other components
(DAC's for example) are also voiced so you need to choose a "system"
that you like.
