I use the Cambridge Soundworks 745 which accepts iPod (or Squeezebox) via the phono aux inputs. Great sound for a compact unit. I notice the newer models 745i and 765i come with bundled iPod dock. Looks are more functional than stylish - may not be to your daughter's taste.
The Bose Wave CD System will also do a good job and look prettier; but may be more pricey?
