I would say that the sound of an SB3 with high quality outboard DAC playing back lossless files ripped from a Redbook CD would be very close to the sound of the Transporter playing back the same files. But that said, there are still some other differences between the two set ups which mostly have to do with the Transporters built in word clock function. The real question is just how resolving a system (preamp, power amp and speakers) one needs to actually hear the very, very slight difference afforded by the Transporter's better word clock. Besides which I'm not even sure that the Transporter's word clock function comes into play when using the Transporter's own internal DAC. Of course if one possesses such a high quality playback system then one would might actually want the Transporter because of it's ability to play back high resolution digital files (24/88.2 or 24/96). -- ralphpnj Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels -> Snatch -> The Transporter -> Transporter 2 'Last.fm' (http://www.last.fm/user/jazzfann/) ------------------------------------------------------------------------ ralphpnj's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=10827 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=50428 _______________________________________________ audiophiles mailing list [email protected] http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/audiophiles
