Thanks for the suggestions everyone. Yes, you're probably all right about fixing the NAS problem... it's just a bit tricky to do! I thought of sticking it in another room with a wifi link, but because of the large files I move around to and from it (I take high res RAW photographs) the wifi won't be the best option. And a cable from the living room to another room is a bit difficult because I'm renting, so can't drill through walls.
And now my amp has died -- I think the smoothing capacitor has gone -- so I have no choice but to get a new amp now. Ho hum - back to the drawing board!
