For what it's worth, I would say go with the Grado (or Alessandro)
headphones first and then get a better external DAC or DAC/headpone amp
combo unit after you've had a chance to put aside some more money. I
don't think that a DAC in the price range of the Beresford is going to
offer enough of a sonic improvement over the Duet's stock DAC to be
worth the expensive. OTOH, a pair of Grado SR125s (or the Alessandro
MS1's) will offer enough of a significant improvement over your present
headphones to make their purchase worthwhile.

You should probably be looking at external DACs and DAC/headpone amp
combos in the $400 (and up) price range in order to realize enough of
an improvement over the Duet's DAC to make their purchase worthwhile.
