Not necessarily. Reach out to the forum members in your area and see if anyone will meet up with you to compare SB3 to their Transporter in your environment. I did it a while back when I was searching for a DAC - the group here is helpful, especially if bribed with the chance to listen to someone else's setup, beer, wine, and pizza. Suffice to say, my Squeezebox is connected to a DAC, the DAC outputs to a small unpretentious tube amp which drives full range, single driver speakers.
