Hi, My configuration is the following one :
Amp : ATOLL IN 100SE CD Player : Philips 723 Speakers : Cabasse Sloop M2 When I connect my SqueezeBox Classic to the amp via the analog outputs, I notice the following things : - the sound volume is much weaker than the sound provided by my CD player Philips CD723 - the sound quality is not as deep as the sound quality provided by my CD player I read a lot of things about DACs and I've some hesitation before buying one... I read that SB uses a built-in 24-bit DAC (a Burr-Brown PCM1748) what seems to be quite correct. Why is the sound so different than the one provided by my CD player ? I can buy a SPDIF board for my amp. ATOLL provides SPDIF boards : http://www.atoll-electronique.com/actu.php Here is the technical description : - Rapport Signal/Bruit : 100 dB - Bande passante : 48 kHz - Temps de Montée : 2 µs - Convertisseur Burr-Brown PCM1744 - Niveau de sortie 4,5 V crête soit 3,1 VRMS - Dynamique 95 dB Price is 150 euros. As you can see, DAC is Burr-Brown PCM1744 what is approximately the same one than the SB. Do you see any interest to buy this board ? Do you thing it will improve the sound ? ATOLL says that it brings quality close to their CD-50 or CD-80 CD Players what are excellent. Therefore, I can't understand how it is possible because the Burr-Brown chip is the approx the same than the SB one. More generally : - Do you think that this board (150 euros) will bring me some improvements on the sound quality ? - Which DAC would you advise me so that I can get the same quality than the sound provided by my CD Player Philips CD 723 ? I wouldn't like to spend more than 200 euros. Thanks a lot for your help, Regards Yann -- metalwarrior ------------------------------------------------------------------------ metalwarrior's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=20973 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=59008
