If you're interested in software DSP (either EQ or DRC) check out Inguz (inguzaudio.com). Several members of this forum including myself use it.
Search for past threads on this topic. Inguz is free to download and runs on the music server alongside SqueezeCenter. The latest version does not support SC7.3 or later so you'll have to stick on SC7.2, for now. I use it for bass EQ only. The EQ filters were improved a few versions back and they work like a dream. Very precise and totally transparent for the un-EQd frequencies just as you would wish a software-only solution to be.
