One of the topics I love to bring up regularly is that of recording
quality, compression and the Loudness War. I've posted audacity screen
grabs now and then showing differences in compression between different
releases of the same music. I'm trying to organise this into a proper
on-line database so that everyone can pool their information
world-wide.

One of the members here mentioned TurnMeUp.org which is trying to
change the way things are done in the industry. I've decided to try to
do my own bit about the Loudness War, because it is so important IMO.

Anyway, I have a prototype, skeleton website/database running with
off-the-shelf software (nothing bespoke - all open source stuff) and
would like to get some feedback on usability, organisation of
information etc. If you're interested in giving comments please PM me.
I would probably need just 2-3 people just to try to upload screen
grabs, check the idea isn't hopeless etc. :)

A further, optional idea is to develop an audacity plug-in so that
waveforms can be submitted to the database automatically from within
audacity. If there are any C++ developers who think they might wish to
help please PM me!

The database is intended to be a free resource so that people can
compare compression levels (one of many factors, admittedly) before
deciding what to buy. Strictly no music data will be stored, just
screen grabs of the waveforms, for obvious reasons!
