It is! I talked to the guy who headed up the AES working group on that.
Of course, this was after they printed it in the JAES. I explained to
him all the problems that I saw with it. I could sense his feeling was
"Gee, why didn't we get someone like this guy to help us out. I had no
idea about any of that stuff."

This chap is a respected expert in the field of acoustics. Not RF. Any
wonder why they had no idea an XLR was not the right connector? Now, I
am not going to take claim for this, as they obviously figured out
fairly quickly, but the original incarnation of AES/EBU was actually
much worse. I may take claim for being the first one to point it out to
them. Just by reading the spec.

Yes, it was that bad! Now, just merely bad.
