The vast majority of jitter in a s/pdif-connected system is inherent in s/pdif itself. The interconnects and especially the receiving circuitry are inherently susceptible to jitter, even data-correlated jitter (generally considered Really Bad). Even in a simpler system, it can be shown that there's a point of diminishing returns that is easily reached in optimizing the power supplies - after that you enter the realm of transmission line issues and the inherent difficulty of recovering a reasonable clock from manchester-encoded data. The latter is the subject of a really interesting test developed by the late Julian Dunn, which unfortunately is routinely misunderstood and misapplied by hi-fi magazines to crank out nonsense figures for any digital product, whether s/pdif is involved or not! But I digress... :) > 3 : I did'not have problems with the use of a wordclock with the > Transporter. A word clock interface requires the DAC to provide the _correct_ clock frequency, and this can change depending on the material being played. Transporter will indicate what the correct frequency is, using s/pdif's in-band signalling mechanism for such info. Unfortunately, I am not aware of any external DACs that will actually respond to it automatically, which means you'll probably have to flip a switch when changing sample rates (if anything besides 44.1 is supported at all!) > but for the moment I can't manage to play 24/96 files with or without > wordclock. That's not right. I'll post some suggestions in the other thread about this. -- seanadams ------------------------------------------------------------------------ seanadams's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=3 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=60838 _______________________________________________ audiophiles mailing list [email protected] http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/audiophiles
