Thanks for that! With two regulators in parallel, one is carrying most of the load current, but this won't happen if the series resistors are added I think.
The issue I'm facing is that the single 2A 7805 is shutting down thermally after a few minutes. I was just looking at the PCB thinking it would be straightforward to cut some tracks and have the two regulators in series. If I had a 7808 followed by a 7805 they would share the power dissipation. I need to double-check the rectified voltage under load to see if there is enough overhead for two regulators. It's above 11V if I recall correctly. Sourcing a 2A 7808 would be tricky but my local Maplin has the 2A 7805 and I can put a 3V zener on the ground to raise it up to 8V no problem. This will have the benefit of double regulation, however they'd still be sharing the same heatsink so I might still face the same problem. (Another option would be to put a power transitor in place of one of the regs.) By the way, I changed the 2200uF/25V (input) and 22uF/25V (output) caps to 6800uF/35V Panasonic TSHA 105deg and 1500uF/10V Panasonic FC 105deg caps already. The latter is overkill really but the best of what I had to hand. -- Glenn2 ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Glenn2's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=19286 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=61090 _______________________________________________ audiophiles mailing list [email protected] http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/audiophiles
