The empahasis among the younger people I know seems to be convenience and sheer quantity of music over sound quality. There are exceptions though. My oldest son (23) doesn't care a fig about quality, and he keeps asking ME to turn it down (and no I'm not going deaf). However, my youngest son (19) commented that my new DAC sounded better than the one in the SB3 without even being asked.
I grew up with cassettes, and the measure of a good recording (and a good player) was how much top end it had. I sometimes think that I still have that mindset deep down, when I hear that mp3 "sizzle" and actually like it in some strange way. The comments on the article are fascinating. They really illustrate the point that the best sound is the sound you like the best.
