Thanks.That seems to confirm Clive B's view- i.e. no preamp is ideal, but the SCA 2 is so good, it is unlikely to have any audible 'signature'. I feel vindicated in adopting a minimalist approach. I use Rothwell fixed attenuators and currently have only a single source, which is the TP. I may add TV/DVD, but think I can get away with using the TP for this, so shouldn't need a preamp..? I have now replaced most albums with CDs,so it will be difficult to justify the cost of an SCA2 ( with phono stage), and a respectable turntable. There's probably no going back now, even though it would be nice to hear some of the old vinyl and find out if it really is 'better' than CD. The vinyl will probably stay in boxes for another 10 years.
