I second superQ in his recommendation of Paradigm, and NHT(out of
business). I feel that Klipsch speakers are good on the higher price
range, their lower models have a somehow narrow dynamic range. A speaker
I believe is a great bang for the buck is the Paradigm Monitor 7 series,
in your price range and very good sound

The NAD is a very good value, you could also listen to a Cambridge
Audio 340A in that price range.
