Here's another approach to the problem of the long cable runs but I'm
not sure of the implications.

What if the centrally located amp were an A/V receiver with a built-in
DAC and multiple digital inputs. So instead of using long runs of RCA
cable carrying line level analog signals, long runs of coaxial digital
or optical digital cable were used? Would this solve the problem? And if
long runs of digital cable are okay then perhaps a couple of external
DACs located near the amp might also be a solution.

And yet another work around: instead of SqueezeBox Classics what if
several Duets (receivers and controllers) were to be used. All the
receivers could then be centrally located right at the amp and just a
controller (and charging cradle) would need to be located in each room.

Just throwing out ideas to see what sticks.
