I got my HT processor before my Squeezebox, It's on it's 6 years old now
now .

That is one the one thing I never figured how to even A-B test ? 6ch
processors !

To begin with they are not using the exact same algorithms for
processing or subwoofer crossover, so I did try to test them side by
side down at the hifi shop. But that proved inconclusive they do not
sound the same you have to pick one.

But it was made easy for another reason, I made a short list of the
feature set I wanted and came up with exactly 0 products ? this was 2000
to 2003 .
I gave up and saw that Meridian fitted the bill if I made some
compromises.
They had the G series stuff and the 800 series, the 800 series is so
insanely expensive that I could not ever afford it, the G series is only
ridiculously expensive ;) I could barely afford that so I got the G98DH
and G68J .

The way Meridian processors works makes it's no point in using analog
sources (you can but why ) So I've never heard the anolog stage in my
SB3 when I got it in 2006

What I did A-B test was the MeridianG98DH DVD/DVD-A player/CD Transport
compared to the SB3 as a digital transport. In this case I could make
sure that processing and volume was equal.

The result If there is a difference it is very subtle I could not be
sure i did compare back and forth for days ? then the convenience of
the squeezebox took over :) so there was practically no difference
between the two as a CD Quality audio transport.

Prior to getting my HT processor i've had an old Meridian563 DAC and
used a couple of different transports for that one. In those days I
thought I've heard significant differences between sources (no ABX ever
performed then) but the level was the same.
But modern Processors/DAC's and transports have leveled the field
considerably thoose differences are not there anymore with my current
processor ? even in sighted tests, I could of course suffer from inverse
placebo ;)

I might redo this test with 24/96 stereo material as the G98DH has a
proprietary link for DVDA that might sound different (or not).
It's a pity that no Squeezebox do 6ch 24/96 ?

In my younger days as an audiophile I was not so organized so I did
compare stuff without even trying to level the volume etc and have
probably wasted a lot of $$ down the drain.

But no shops do proper test anyway try compare two Vinyl cartridges ,
they never have the same sensitivity and the shop needs two identical
turntables to perform the test ?
And level mathed CD players tests in a shop why, they will very rarely
sell the expensive one.

Main hifi: SB3 (soon to replaced by a Touch :) It is on preorder)
Bedroom/Office: Boom
Kitchen: Receiver (soon to be replaced by my SB3 and the SBR to be
stuffed in a box in the attic )
I use a Controller various ir-remotes and a Eee-PC with squeezeplay to
control this
