You don't need to rerip. In dbpa, you might have set the DSP for adding album and track replay gain tags (or you might not have). But if the tags aren't there you can use dbpa to add the replaygain tags. You can do this with a large batch of files (so much, much, much simpler than reripping). And I agree that foobar2000 can do this very easily too. I use both.
p.s. the nice thing about smart gain is that it uses track gain if you are playing a mix of tracks from different albums and it uses album gain if you are playing an entire album.
