Sure enough, the website says that signal goes to pin 2, with pins 1 and 3 connected to ground. So the signal is NOT being shorted to ground.
This adaptor DOES join the screen of the RCA to the EC's ground, which in turn means that the SB3's ground will be shunted to earth via the EC amp.
