This is all true and applies particularly if you are in the habit of
running 50ft mic cables near mains cables or CRT's. In general domestic
use, balanced is unnecessary because the lengths involved are pretty
short and the noise sources aren't there - but most of all because you
are running line level (not Mic level) signals.
