I don't see how are they different? Couldn't you equally well say that music, as an art form, is based on an engineering discipline (that is based largely on science), because you can't have quality musical instruments without engineering them carefully. If you look into any good instrument, you'll realize how much math and engineering must go into building one. It's the means toward the end. Don't confuse the utensils with the food. You don't eat utensils, you only use them as a means toward feeding yourself. It's the food you should enjoy, not the utensils.
