I believe if you have your system set up properly, and are making full utilization of the information available - 16/44.1 or 24/96 - you will be happy with either. I am now there. I dont cringe at 16/44.1. I dont drool over 24/96. My opinion is, if you are hearing a LARGE difference in 24/96 - something is a miss. Try upsampling the redbook to 24/96. If that narrows the gap then you are experiencing the DAC's bias toward 24/96. Make your DAC happy. Let the computer do the work.
