Okay so I used Foobar to run replaygain on a few recent recordings just
to get some idea of the numbers mean. After reading several difference
posts about replaygain and loudness I gathered that the closer to 0.0
db the better.

Here's what I discovered (actually more like verified).

Jazz recordings seem to be unaffected by the loudness wars with several
very recent recording sawing a replaygain numbers between +2 and -1.0
db.

On the other hand several recent rock and popular recordings show
replaygain numbers in the range of -9.0 to -10.0 db.

No wonder I'm a jazz fan.
