Yes I agree with your conclusion. I also learned to stop flaming people that say there is a big difference in SQ when tuning buffer size. But I can still flame them if they say it is better ;)
But seriously, the brighter sound signature I hear from lower buffer size can still theoretically come from a stressed buffer manager. The added air I heard from my DIY cable without screen came from RFI we learned later on. Not lower capacitance in the cable as we initial theorized. So many of us was enjoying our faulty setup as the new best thing.
