He did... and the effects he described/measured were caused by the combined capacitance/inductance/resistance of the cable. No alchemy (or $1,000+ pseudo-science) involved. The LCR of the cables becomes part of the circuit they are attached to. So yes, analogue cables can alter the sound of a system... but the variables in play are ALL cheap to manipulate.
