...and a completely analogous thing happens with ALL of our senses.

The "camera never lies" but our senses do all the time.

Blumlein figured this out decades ago (going back to audio)... the aim
is maximum suspension of disbelief - not about trying to create a
simulacrum of a reality that doesn't exist anyway (as far as any of us
can tell!).
