Hi, I don't have much time for the non-empirical part of this thread, but here is my observation regarding the suggested 12897 buffer setting, if it was ever meant to be a serious suggestion at all: It does not work over here. In my system, the pattern is pretty clear: the smaller the buffer setting, the better. "Better" = in the sense that I explained earlier.
