Has anyone done any blind tests or similar comparison regarding analog
audio quality of Squeezebox devices compared to streaming solutions
from other companies ?

I was talking to my local hifi reseller earlier today and asked about
the streaming solutions they sold, we talked about:
- Squeezebox Classic
- Squeezebox Transporter
- Sonos
- Teac WAP (not sure which model)
- Linn Sneaky DS
- Linn Majik DS-I

They had tried them all and connected them with analogue cables to an
external amplifier. Their analysis was that Linn was in the top
followed by Sonos and then Teac and Squeezebox was in the lower end.

This got me a bit confused as it didn't match my personal thoughts. I'm
not surprised that Linn was on the top, the thing I'm surprised about is
that Teac and Sonos were ahead of the Squeezebox (even Transporter).
They only had the Linn devices connected in the listening rooms, so I
didn't have any chance to compare them with the others.

If they'd only said that the Classic was poor I could get it because
its analogue output is maybe not top notch, but the Transporter should
be a lot better than Teac and Sonos, shouldn't it ?

So I'm now wondering if anyone has done any comparison or if we just
assume Squeezebox is at the top.

If you have done some tests, how would you rank the different streaming
solutions you have tried ?

Have anyone done a real blind test between Squeezebox Classic and
Squeezebox Touch using analogue outputs ? In that case, what's your
feeling ? Is the Touch a lot better ?

I can and will compare Classic and Touch in my own setup, but I'm a bit
worried that my current Wharfedale Modus One Six speakers are going to
make the difference less than it really is.

I'm only asking about audio quality (not features).
I'm also only asking about analogue outputs as I'm not interested in
solutions with external DAC's.

The reason I'm asking is because I get a bit nervous when I went to the
store to get new speakers and got out of the store with the message that
my system would gain more audio quality by changing the Squeezebox
player to a Sonos or Teac device.
