stormbound in the hotel, so here are a few thoughts

1. not only different systems affect the outcome, but also the volume
that the music is played at has an affect. I am playing at quite a low
volume and therefore this has an effect on the balance which might seem
overemphasised when played at higher volume.

2. what I don't get is that I like SBT out of the box and I liked
TT2.0, but just cannot get on with TT3.0, would not say my system is
that bright. I am thinking maybe modern electronics and valve systems
have been designed to take the brightness out of digital music and
therefore need a bright source.

3. has anyone tried the priorities for TT2.0, I would like to hear what
they sound like.

4. the advantage of the SBGK p62 settings is that there is headroom to
play with from jivealsa at 45 all the way to 75 and loadavg from 50 to
76. I you like TT3.0 sound you can just change the jivealsa and loadavg
to 75/76 and you will get the TT3.0 sound. If you like TT3.0, but just
want a little less forward sound then just back off the values. with
TT3.0 there is very little change that can be made as the sound breaks
down if jivealsa value is lowered.

5. don't forget chrt -f -p 98 154 and 155 can give a little sparkle to
the music, some reported greater focus and placement of instruments.
might be worth trying.

6. the sequence of my changes for p62 was

using p48 settings, but with SBGK priorities, except for watchdog still
at 0 gave a very sweet sound, but a bit bass light.

I then set watchdog to 99 and the bass improved, realised the sound was
a bit overblown so removed all my settings and we ended up with p62 with
jivealsa at 45 and loadavg 50. I then played with jivealsa/loadavg and
ended up with 56/57.

7. don't know if there is any importance in the relationship between
priorities of jivealsa and loadavg, in out of the box they are 45 and
50 ie 5 apart, in TT3.0 and SBGK they are 1 apart. Does this make a
difference, don't know - will have to try it out.

thats enough - the memsahib is wanting to brave the weather

cheers
