We also see with our brain, but I would not try driving the Washington Beltway without looking! Your takeaway point is still well taken, but expectation bias affects both the perception that there is a change as well as the perception that there is no change. Some (most?) of the tweaks discussed in this forum may produce only the illusion of improvement, but some may not.
