I'm afraid you may have misunderstood my extremely simplistic
illustration. It is not that I intend to tightly couple 'sighted' with
visual only. By sighted I mean being aware which of the two
'components' (in my example, one 'component' would be an extremely
bodacious looking eligible woman, while the other 'component' would be
a less attractive eligible woman) are currently 'functioning'. My point
is that if a subject is not aware of which of the two women he is
spending time with during the 'blind' test, he may have trouble telling
them apart (they both function pretty much to his satisfaction).
However, the moment the subject is given a choice, he will go for the
more 'prestigious' choice (in his personal opinion, based on his
personal likes and dislikes, which as we all know strongly gravitate
toward the more curvaceous woman).

And since we're seeing the same pattern in many choices of audio
components (i.e. going for the component that we reckon will be more
prestigious for us), all I'm saying is why fight it?
